[ February 5, 2020   //   ]

Dube Cargo Terminal has despatched a 100-tonne freighter loaded with 2.8 million facemasks, other protective gear and medical equipment from local suppliers to Guangzhou , China to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The proximity to suppliers and the capacity to rapidly handle charter flights prompted Air China to operate the flight from in Durban in South Africa.

General manager of Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, Terence Delomoney, said: “As the aircraft landed empty, only to pick up cargo, all teams were fully trained, briefed and equipped with the necessary PPE, and the Department of Health took lead to ensure that the aircraft and crew were properly screened. As the airport, we are very pleased to be part of this operation and to positively contribute towards helping to curb the spread of this virus.”

Dube Cargo Terminal is geared up to service another freighter flight later in the week as part of the same shipment.
