Ekol launches Italy-UK intermodal link

[ September 26, 2017   //   ]

Turkish-owned Ekol Logistics has launched a block train connecting between Trieste, Italy and Zeebrugge, Belgium, with connections to and from the UK. It leaves Trieste twice a week and will offer connections on P&O Ferries to Tilbury, Hull and Teesport, with space for equipment including mega trailers, containers and swap bodies.

The train will be operated by Hupac and is expected to carry around 5,000 shipments per year.

P&O Ferries managing director, Janette Bell, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of this new train to Zeebrugge which will further enhance our integrated rail and ferry service linking the entire continent of Europe with Britain. We expanded our operation at Zeebrugge last year so that now we have capacity for 700,000 units per year and can continue to grow.”

Last year Ekol acquired shares in the EMT port in Trieste and announced the development of more intermodal connections.
