Emissions Trading Scheme does not break law, judge rules

[ December 22, 2011   //   ]

The EU Court of Justice ruled on 21 December that applying the EU’s Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) to aviation would not infringe international law nor the Open Sky agreement,Its decision would allow all airlines operating on EU territory, European or not, to be covered by in the ETS. While the ruling was welcomed by environmentalists, it is less likely to find favour with the airfreight industry which argues that the scheme would drive up costs.
