EU warns UK over customs duties

[ October 1, 2018   //   ]

The European Commission is to send a ‘Reasoned Opinion’ – part of its formal infringement procedure to the UK for failing to pay €2.7 billion worth of customs on Chinese clothing and footwear imports..

The Commission opened the infringement procedure in March following a 2017 report by the EU’s anti-fraud body OLAF, which found that a number of UK importers had evaded a large amount of customs duties by using fictitious and false invoices and incorrect customs value.

The UK now has two months to act after before the Commission refers the case to the EU Court of Justice.
