European customs clearance business Customs Support Group has set up an advisory board to unite industry experts and drive innovation.

IAB will highlight the customs industry’s vital role in global trade and economic growth and, it says, comes at a pivotal moment for customs management, which is becoming increasingly critical for international businesses navigating geopolitical tensions, tariff disputes, regulatory changes and rapidly-shifting global supply chains.

The board is chaired by customs and trade strategy expert Friederike Engelken, who combines extensive hands-on experience with the heritage of Germany-based WZC Riemann, one of the oldest customs agencies in Europe.

Customs Support Group chief executive, John Wegman, said: “The demand for customs expertise has never been higher, so with the IAB we are making sure we stay ahead – not just by attracting the best talent, but by leveraging their knowledge to navigate changes in the market, shape new opportunities and ensure CSG continues to lead the industry and deliver greater value to our clients.”

Friederike Engelken, added: “The IAB is about bringing together CSG’s exceptional network of expertise and putting it to work for the future. By combining different perspectives, we can generate fresh ideas, stronger connections, and real value for our clients and our industry.”

The seven-member board comprises:

John Dawson, an expert in customs brokerage and logistics management with more than 35 years’ experience, and founder of Bell Transport and Logistics in Ireland.

Ton van Grinsven, a founding member of CSG, based in the Netherlands, with more than 30 years’ experience in global customs and logistics.

Harald Halvorsen, a fourth-generation customs and freight forwarding expert, who represents Harald Halvorsen Spedisjon, one of Norway’s oldest customs brokers.

Claudia Strobel, co-founder of the German iZD Gruppe, who has more than 25 years of experience specialising in digital processes, management, marketing and human resources

Gerd Strobel, a strategic consultant and expert in customs clearance and professional training at iZD Gruppe with nearly 40 years’ experience.

Mark Taylor, a seasoned expert in digital customs brokerage, duty management and international trade processes, with more than 35 years’ experience. He is one of the founders of Britannia Bureau in the UK.

Peter Wolf, who has led major operations across Europe in shipping, agency management and supply chain strategy and is a partner at WCL – Worldwide Consultants in Logistics GmbH, Germany

John Weman said: “These leaders offer a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience across customs, logistics and international trade. Many of them previously founded and led market-leading customs agencies that were later acquired by CSG and now contribute their knowledge to guide the company’s strategy, strengthen client relationships and expand its international network.

“By leveraging the amplified expertise of its IAB members, Customs Support Group aims to continue enhancing its visibility, forward-looking development and strategic impact, remaining at the forefront of a more crucial-than-ever customs industry.”

CSG plans to add further members to the board in the coming year.
