FedEx and American Airlines ready to move the vaccine

[ December 14, 2020   //   ]

FedEx Express is preparing to transport the first shipments of Covid-19 vaccines across the US. Following the Food and Drug Administration’s authorisation for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, it will begin the task of moving it to dosing centres . The task will be balanced among major cargo carriers, and FedEx is working closely with healthcare customers. To help reach underserved communities, FedEx has committed $4 million in cash and in-kind transportation support to several non-profit organisations in the US and around the world. These include Direct Relief, International Medical Corps, and Heart to Heart International.

American Airlines has also carried its first shipment of the vaccine last night, from Chicago O’Hare to Miami on board a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, for transhipment to a US territory in the Caribbean. American began conducting trial flights in November to simulate the conditions required to transport the vaccine, stress testing the thermal packaging and operational handling process to ensure it remains stable in transit.
