Felixstowe is full, find somewhere else, forwarders told

[ October 8, 2021   //   ]

Freight operators are reporting problems with returning empty containers to Felixstowe. Woodland Group said that due to the enormous number of laden import containers now congesting and the UK driver shortage  neither Evergreen nor Maersk are unable to accept any empties and have offered alternatives, almost all in the North of England

This has incurred additional costs and the longer journeys to the north have also affected impact hauliers’ ability to fulfil other deliveries.

Woodland has been told that the issues could continue for the next two weeks or so.

Far Logistics also says that multiple carriers have rejected the return of empty boxes to Felixstowe and have been offering alternatives including Tilbury, Teesport, Southampton and Liverpool. Again, this will have a cost impact, it says.

To make matters worse, ports across the country, including Felixstowe and Liverpool were being affected by high winds at the time of writing.
