Grimaldi Group company Finnlines is offering a service for ro ro and containers between North Spain and the UK, connecting to and from P&O Ferries services at Zeebrugge.

Finnlines is offering departures from Bilbao and Santander on Wednesday (the latter for self driving units) arriving in either Teesport or Tilbury the following Sunday – faster than road, rail or other sea alternatives, it says. The return service departs Teesport on Saturday, Tilburg in Sunday with arrival in Spain on Weddnesday.

The vessels can carry ro ro trailers, containers, larged wheeled items and breakbulk cargo.

Finnlines is also offering connections between Spain and Gothenburg connecting with Swedish Orient Lines in Zeebrugge.

Zeebrugge is P&O Ferries’ main continental hub, with connecting services to Hull as well as Tilbury and Teesport.

In July, P&O Ferries announced a doubling of freight capacity at Zeebrugge in order to meet increased demand including a fourth berth and enhanced rail capacity  giving an annual capacity of 700,000 units a year at the Belgian terminal compared with 370,000 currently.
