Firefighting gear on its way to Ghana

[ February 24, 2022   //   ]

A containerload of fire fighting equipment bound for Ghana, sponsored by Portsmouth stevedore Portico has been loaded at the terminal on board an Africa Express Lines vessel.

It is part of a campaign by local firefighter Storms Menri (pictured centre, with Portico employees Craig Hibberd and Conor McAvery) and charity Fire Aid to send redundant Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service kit to the West African country where it is desperately needed.

The kit includes PPE, radio equipment, hoses, smoke alarms, breathing apparatus sets and cutting gear.

It follows Storms Menri’s recent trip to the country he saw for himself how hard the Ghana National Fire Service personnel work to protect their communities but with only limited access to equipment.
