Former minister becomes first WISTA patron
[ January 13, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]
Past Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Woman of the Year, Nusrat Ghani MP has become the organisation’s first patron.
The creation of the role marks a new strategic phase for WISTA UK as it prepares to expand its policy engagement, mentoring activity and industry partnerships, all as the UK maritime industry is grappling with both a skills shortage and increasing pressure to decarbonise.
The former Shipping Minister current Chairman of Ways and Means and Senior Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons is a longstanding advocate for maritime, sustainability and diversity. As Minister, she led the development of the UK’s Maritime 2050 strategy and strengthened Britain’s role in shaping global shipping regulations.
