Freight group welcomes rail plan

[ January 17, 2018   //   ]

The Rail Freight Group (RFG) has welcomed Transport for the North’s draft Strategic Transport Plan, which sets out a blueprint for developing the network across the region for passengers and freight, including a new transpennine route between Manchester and Leeds. RFG executive director Maggie Simpson said that plans for large scale modal shift to rail were good news for rail freight operators, including the upgrade of the north Transpennine route, where development work is currently underway.  She added: “We have been working to ensure that capacity and gauge for freight is fully incorporated as a core part of the work, and this must now be urgently confirmed as this vital project moves forward.”
