FTA Ireland (FTAI) has appointed chief executive Niall Cotton on a permanent basis. He has served on an interim basis since earlier this year, succeeding Aidan Flynn.

He brings over two decades of senior leadership experience across logistics, operations, and commercial roles. A founding member of FTA Ireland, he has served as both president and director since the association’s inception in 2010 and was a key contributor to the development of the Trucksafe programme, which promotes operational excellence and safety standards across the haulage industry.

FTA Ireland board chairperson, Philip Scallan, said: “We are delighted to confirm Niall as CEO after a thorough process. His track record with FTA Ireland and across the logistics sector makes him the right leader for our next chapter.”

Cotton added: “Aidan’s tenure has been truly inspirational. He gave our industry a strong and respected voice in policymaking circles and helped shape critical agendas—from skills development to compliance. His dedication to apprenticeships has laid the foundation for cultivating the talent our sector needs for the future.”

Looking ahead, he said: “I am honoured to lead FTA Ireland into its next chapter of growth and transformation. Our sector plays a vital role in driving the Irish economy, and I look forward to working closely with policymakers and members to strengthen our industry’s reputation and influence.”
