FTA Ireland hopeful of solution to Ireland fuel dispute
[ April 13, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]FTA Ireland says it is optimistic that a solution can be found to address rising fuel costs following protests by farmers and others that have caused widespread disruption to the country’s road network.
The group has taken part in intensive Government-led talks over recent days at which it used the opportunity to clearly communicate the challenges being experienced by its members and to advocate for practical, equitable and targeted supports.
FTA Ireland says it recognises the right to peaceful protest but has consistently highlighted that disruption to critical transport infrastructure, ports and fuel distribution points risks compounding pressures on businesses and communities.
The Irish Government has now outlined a proposed framework for a Transport Fuel Support Scheme as part of its response which, FTAI says, represents tangible progress and demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting transport operators through the current challenges.
