FTAI publishes costs guide as pressures mount
[ November 5, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]The Freight Transport Association Ireland (FTAI) has published its seventh annual Manager’s Guide to Distribution Costs.
Cost control is essential not only for day‑to‑day viability but also to fund reinvestment, innovation and resilience against future shocks. All partners in the supply chain must understand each other’s cost structures.
It says that with near full employment driver vacancies now take an average of 29.8 days to fill and average driver wages rose to €47,349. However, average haulage rates increased by just 4.2%, while overall business costs rose by 7.6%, compressing margins to an average operating profit of 6.8%.
Average maintenance cost per vehicle reached €9,937, up 11% year-on-year.
