Gefco sets up in Serbia

Gefco has started operations in Serbia with the opening of a new subsidiary. It will offer the whole range of the Gefco Group services, including transport to and from the European Union, Russia, Turkey, time critical solutions and a rail service from China to Germany with a 20-day transit time.

Gefco describes Serbia as one of the most dynamic economies of the region, and the third biggest market in the area after Romania and Greece with an ideal location between Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Gefco Serbia general manager, Lachezar Roubchev, said: “The geographical position of Serbia makes it a strategic country for Gefco; we are already partnering with local operators as part of our international flows.

The country is strategically located on the major pan-European corridors across the Balkans and is is proceeding with reconstruction and modernization plans that include railway and road projects.

In the past years, the country has attracted investments in steel, manufactured goods, chemicals, automotive and has signed free trade agreements with the European Union, Russia, Turkey and Central European countries.
