Government axes Ramsgate ferry scheme

The Department of Transport has axed its controversial contract with Seaborne Freight to operate a ‘Brexit-buster’ ferry service between Ramsgate and Ostend, but said it was in advanced talks to find another operator. The government had faced criticism for offering a £13.8m contract to Seaborne, which had been trying for some time without success to charter vessels and restart services to the port of Ramsgate.
The government’s move was triggered by after Arklow Shipping’s ddecided not to support the venture.
