Government unveils £1trn export plans

[ November 19, 2021   //   ]

The Department for International Trade has launched a ‘Made in the UK, Sold to the World’ campaign to boost the country’s exports to £1 trillion by the end of the decade.

A 12-point strategy published on 17 November includes an Export Support Service, a new trade show programme and expansion of the Export Academy launched in October across the whole country, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK Export Finance credit agency will add new services and an Internationalisation Fund, open to smaller firms in England, will aim to grow international sales.

The UK exported £600 billion in goods and services in 2020 but only around one in ten GB businesses currently export, behind continental competitors like Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

In November, DIT is ran an inaugural International Trade Week, with over 100 events and workshops across the country hosted by expert trade advisers.
