Group calls for shipping carbon to go by 2050

[ September 24, 2021   //   ]

A group of over 150 industry leaders and organisations has called for decisive government action to enable full decarbonisation of international shipping by 2050. The Call to Action for Shipping Decarbonization was developed by a multi-stakeholder taskforce convened by the Getting to Zero Coalition between the Global Maritime Forum, the World Economic Forum, and Friends of Ocean Action. They say that the private sector is already taking important steps and that now governments must deliver policies that will “supercharge the transition and make zero-emission shipping the default choice by 2030”. Full decarbonization of international shipping is urgent and achievable, they say.

Members of the taskforce include Unifeeder, DFDS, Cargill Ocean Transportation, Lloyd’s Register and Port of Antwerp.
