Haropa wins onshore power funding
[ November 27, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]French port operator HAROPA has secured €6.1 million in EU funding under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) to accelerate electrification of its maritime and inland terminals along the Seine corridor.
It is the only port authority in Europe to receive funding for both maritime and inland onshore power supply (OPS) infrastructure. The project will deploy new shoreside power connection points in Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, enabling container, inland freight, cruise and passenger vessels to connect to the local grid and reduce emissions while berthed.
The project, one of Europe’s most comprehensive OPS networks aims to achieve significant reductions in CO₂ and fine particulate emissions and improve air quality and curb noise in nearby urban areas.
It also complements the rollout of the Borne&Eau shoreside electrification network for inland quays between Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, carried out in partnership with Voies navigables de France. Following an initial phase with installation of 13 units, a total of 110 connection points are expected to be operational along the Seine axis by 2026, supported by a €9.24-million investment co-funded by the Île-de-France Region and the European Union (CEF-Connecting Europe Facility).
