Heathrow launches £10bn redevelopment

Heathrow Airport has launched a £10 billion in investment programme to make London’s main gateway fit for the future, including plans to increase freight capacity by 20%. The scheme envisions a comprehensive redevelopment of the ‘Horseshoe Road’ area with 1960s-era buildings demolished and replaced and creation of a remote truck parking area.

Once complete, Heathrow will be able to serve 10 million more passengers a year, a 12% increase in capacity

The plan also includes the redevelopment of the Central Terminal Area including demolition of the old Terminal 1, extension of Terminal 2 and a new southern road tunnel to improve access.
