Joint effort for Malta logistics firm

[ November 6, 2013   //   ]

Malta-based logistics company Carmelo Caruana has completed a six-week operation for Capricorn Energy to store and maintain oil and gas drilling equipment destined for North Africa. Capricorn is a wholly owned subsidiary of leading exploration firm, Cairn Energy.

The task involved the handling and inspection of 3,600 tonnes of casing joints at a dedicated site at Hal Far on Malta, with maintenance carried out under Capricorn’s supervision. The joints were then stacked and loaded out to destination.

Carmelo Caruana managing director Karl Naudi said: “An operation such as this puts Malta on the oil and industry map as a logistics and supply base in the Mediterranean.” The logistics specialist has previously handled over 140,000 tonnes of concrete-coated steel pipes for the Libya-Sicily gas pipeline and has worked with other top names in the maritime, logistics and oil and gas industry.
