KOG purchase extends Rhenus Project’s reach

[ March 12, 2015   //   ]

Germany’s Rhenus Group has taken over Swiss project logistics specialist KOG Worldwide. Contracts were signed in Zurich on 24 February 2015. KOG Worldwide, which largely focuses on project logistics and transportation of plant abroad, mainly to the US, Europe and Asia, was founded by Jürgen Osmers and Rolf Gubler in 1981.

From its headquarters in the canton of Zug in Switzerland, KOG operates 21 companies in 18 different countries. It manages complex international logistics projects, particularly in the field of plant construction where specific professional and local knowledge is required to organise and complete the tasks.

The business activities of KOG are being merged with Rhenus Project Logistics within the Rhenus Group. The KOG brand will continue to be used.

Joint managing director of Rhenus Project Logistics, Tobias König, explained that Rhenus Project Logistics has recently taken on a more international orientation with the opening of new business sites in North Africa and Asia, adding: “This purchase will enable us to significantly expand our range of products and our project logistics network.”

Fellow joint managing director at Rhenus Project logistics, Carsten Schröter said: “We’ve focused on wind power projects for European plant manufacturers in the past, among other things. We’ll now particularly attract the interest of US and Asian manufacturers of complete plant and general companies too.”

Power station construction and heavy industry will also be key targets for the Rhenus Group’s project logistics operations in future.

As a result of the acquisition of KOG Worldwide, Rhenus gains new sites in the US, Canada, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and the Far East. Managing director of KOG Worldwide, Jürgen Osmers, described the integration of KOG Worldwide within the Rhenus Group as “a major step forward for our company. With our main centres in the US, Switzerland and Japan, we’ll be serving markets and segments where project logistics operations at Rhenus have not been so strong in the past.”

KOG Group’s sites are certified  to the ISO 9001 quality management system, the ISO 14001 environmental management system and the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system.
