Danish transport and logistics company Leman has acquired freight forwarder Maru International – its third UK purchase in two years.

Maru is a European road transport specialist and also offers air, sea and logistics solutions at its offices in Dewsbury in Yorkshire, Braintree (Essex) and Coatbridge near Glasgow.

The merged company will have 160 employees in the UK. The transaction will be accomplished by 1 January 2018, with Jesper Thygesen of Leman UK continuing as managing director and Maru co-owners Vaughan Woolfitt and Joe Hemingway remaining with the company after the acquisition.

Leman employs almost 800 people in Denmark, UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the US.

Leman chief executive, Thomas Krøyer said that the deal would allow his company to offer “a significantly improved and solid set-up across the UK – from southern England to Scotland. Leman becomes more attractive to customers throughout the UK as well as to partners and agents in the rest of Europe and beyond.”

Maru co-owner Vaughan Woolfitt added: “It was important for us to find the right partner – a strong company with a strong vision – that can help the growth of Maru and ensure the company’s continued development…We are convinced that the merger will bring many benefits to both existing and future customers as well as our employees.”
