Lightweight swapbody offers more space

[ March 11, 2024   //   ]

France’s Modalis Group has developed a lightweight swap-body with greater interior volume rail-road freight:

Designed in collaboration with the Belgian engineering firm Agesia, the unit is made from special steels and an innovative composite material that will be previewed at the  JEC World 2024 trade fair for such materials.

The 45ft unit is coded as C45 L=13,710 mm x W= 2 550 mm x H= 2 900 mm), the most common size in Europe.

A composite panel replaces both steel cross-members and the plywood generally used in the floors of swapbodies. The steel/composite floor offers the largest interior volume on the market, but is still extremely strong, says Modalis.
