Logistics UK calls for urgent action over truck parking crisis

[ May 27, 2021   //   ]

Logistics UK is pressing the Department for Transport to take urgent action to tackle the nationwide shortage of parking spaces for truck drivers, following publication of a Transport Focus report. It found that 56% of respondents rate the availability of spaces for lorries as fairly poor or very poor, reconfirming “a desperate industry need”, says Logistics UK.

It points out that three years ago, the government pledged to increase the availability of secure, safe parking spaces for lorry drivers but  has not yet delivered on its promise. It adds that with the industry already needing to fill 76,000 driver vacancies, the parking shortage  could discourage new entrants from joining the profession.
