Lufthansa buys handler LUG

Lufthansa Cargo has signed to acquire 100% of LUG aircargo handling. The carrier will gain immediate additional handling capacity within Germany and would complement its €600 million investment in its LCCevo program to support future growth.

LUG aircargo handling will continue to operate independently following its acquisition. Completion of the transaction is subject to antitrust and regulatory approvals.

LUG currently belongs to the Dettmer Group, active in a wide variety of cargo segments with some 400 employees. It has about 50,000 m² of covered warehouse space in Germany.

Lufthansa Cargo chief operating officer, Frank Bauer, said: “In an increasingly volatile market environment, we want to become more flexible, more efficient, and more resilient for our customers. That is why we are making targeted investments in our infrastructure in our home market in Germany to set the course to provide an even better offering for our customers and achieve profitable growth — this is a win-win situation for both companies.”
