Maersk and Hamburg Sud unveil new Latam links

Maersk and Hamburg Sud have revised their West Coast Latin America – North Europe network, including the launch of a new CLX service connecting Chile, Peru, Panama and Colombia with North Europe and extended coverage of Colombia.

The CLX service which will provide direct coverage between Chile (San Antonio/San Vicente), Peru (Callao) & (Santa Marta / Cartagena) Colombia and North Europe including London Gateway. It will operate with eight 4,500teu ships offering 1,400 reefer plugs each.

In addition, Hamburg Süd will continue to have access to the existing Eurosal service (SAWC2), providing coverage for ports in Colombia and the Dominican Republic, while also maintaining a direct connection to/from the French port of Le Havre.

The first northbound sailing of the new SAWC1 service is scheduled to be on 10 June 10 and the first southbound on 6 June 6.

The Costa Rica Express (CRX) service will continue to provide direct coverage to/from Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico & Panama and Northern Europe while current Ecubex service which connects Ecuador with Northern Europe will now also call Colombia (Santa Marta) and Portsmouth in the UK.

Hamburg Süd will continue to have access to the existing Eurosal service providing coverage for ports in Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

Maersk regional managing director for Latin America and the Caribbean., Lars Nielsen, said: “The changes to West Coast Latin America – North Europe network and the launch of our new CLX service are a continuation of our efforts to optimize our network and generate synergies from the acquisition of Hamburg Süd. The new network will give our customers improved connectivity, a stand-alone service with direct connections from Chile (San Antonio and San Vicente) and Colombia (Santa Marta), access to an extensive feeder network and multiple transhipment options to/from West Coast of Latin-America and Europe via Panama.”
