Maersk is back but…
[ April 24, 2012 // Chris ]Maersk Line has resumed bookings from North Europe to Asia following the suspension introduced on 23 March due to a spate of cancelled vessels following Chinese New Year. However, the carrier has also announced a general rate increase of $300 per teu and is also levying a $300 per box surcharge on cargoes of waste from Europe. The carrier also announced that it was introducing ”super-slow-steaming’ on five Europe-Asia loops, prolonging voyage times by a further seven days.
April has proved a difficult month for seafreight shippers, with CMA CGM also announcing a booking standstill on its service from North Europe to the Mediterranean and Malta, along with the cancellation of several existing slot charter agreements on its vessels.
