Maritime links London Gateway to the Midlands

GB Railfreight (GBRf) is to operate a new service between connecting DP World London Gateway and Maritime’s intermodal freight terminal in Tamworth (BIFT) in the west Midlands.

It runs six days a week from Monday to Saturday with capacity of 87teu in each direction.

GBRf now operates eight intermodal services into Maritime’s rail terminals in Manchester, Wakefield, East Midlands Gateway, and BIFT. 

Maritime acquired the BIFT terminal as part of its purchase of Roadways Container Logistics in 2014 Average weekly volume has increased from 1,000 containers in 2011 to 2,500 in 2020, and vehicle turnaround time has been reduced to 26 minutes and the site is open 24 hours a day.

BIFT handles five daily intermodal services, connecting London Gateway, Southampton and Felixstowe.
