[ September 14, 2012   //   ]

The European Parliament agreed on 13 September, to grant Pakistan exceptional trade preferences for two years with customs duty exemptions or tariff-rate quotas on 75 different product lines, mainly textiles and clothing. The measure is intended to help the country rebuild its economy in the wake of the floods in 2010. But MEPs added a safeguard measure in the event of imports of any products increasing by 25% or more in 2012 or 2013 compared to the 2009/11 average and the measure could be withdrawn if Pakistan was to engage in “serious and systematic violations of human rights.
