Mersey milestone

[ June 18, 2015   //   ]

Construction of the Port of Liverpool’s new £300 million container terminal has passed a major milestone. Phase 1 of infilling to reclaim 12 hectares of intertidal area has been completed, with further infilling due to take place over the summer. Most of the 296 steel piles have now been driven into the seabed, allowing the infilling of 1.43 million tonnes of sand and silts taken from the Mersey estuary and deposited behind the new quay wall.
