Migrant incursions almost zero, claims Eurotunnel

[ November 20, 2015   //   ]

Channel Tunnel shuttle operator Eurotunnel says that migrant incursions have been reduced to almost zero after completing the first phase of a high security fencing project. An action plan initiated by Eurotunnel on 1 July included 37km of high security fencing, tripling of security staff and increased coordination with national rail operator SNCF to secure the freight yard at Calais Fréthun. “Since then, attempted incursions have reduced to almost zero and there has been no disruption to services,” it said. As a result on Thursday 19 November, Eurotunnel recorded its best freight performance for the year, with almost 6,800 trucks transported in both directions, despite the increased security controls.
