Minister sees Baxter tech at first hand
[ May 11, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]UK freight forwarder, Baxter Freight, welcomed Nottingham MP and transport minister, Lilian Greenwood, to its HQ on Friday 8 May following the successful trial of industrial AI under the Department for Transport’s Freight Innovation Fund Accelerator.
Working alongside AI specialists, Anteam, and Cambridge-based logistics partner, Welch Group, the trial positions Baxter Freight at the forefront of AI-driven transformation in logistics, addressing the longstanding industry challenge of asset underutilisation and showcasing how industrial artificial intelligence can optimise freight operations and improve sustainability.
By trialling the use of advanced AI to predict and match freight orders with the most suitable carriers, Baxter Freight were able to achieve a 50% reduction in empty return journeys, improving supply chain performance and cutting CO₂ per matched delivery by 34%.
Lilian Greenwood said: “What Anteam and Baxter Freight have achieved through the Freight Innovation Fund Accelerator trial is exactly the kind of homegrown innovation this country needs.
