MSC denial

[ October 12, 2011   //   ]

In a statement on its website, MSC said that it was not the owner of the stricken containership Rena nwhich ran aground near  aground near Tauranga, New Zealand on 5 October. The line said that while a number of press reports had quoted MSC as the owner of the stricken vessel, MSC had merely chartered the vessel from Greek operators Cosamare.

MSC added that while it was concerned about events in New Zealand, it was neither the owner of the ship nor responsible for its navigation and press reports that had stated this were inaccurate.

At the time of writing, the Wikipedia entry on the Rena incident quoted MSC as the operator of the ship.
