Shipping lines turn to green tech

[ December 11, 2019   //   ]

MSC says it has become the first major shipping line to use 30% biofuel blends. It has started to routinely use biofuel in its vessels calling in Rotterdam following successful trials earlier this year.

Heavylift operator SAL meanwhile said it had become the first shipping company in the world to adopt a new hydrogen/methanol technology to its fleet. The system dynamically injects a mix of hydrogen, oxygen, water and methanol into selected parts of the engines’ air intake which ensures a much cleaner and thorough combustion process. Following a successful trial on MV Trina, five more vessels will follow.
