New Arvato site to handle sport and beauty products

[ December 7, 2021   //   ]

Arvato Supply Chain Solutions is taking on a 57,000sq m logistics centre at Hannover-Messe to handle the online business for a sporting goods manufacturer and a customer from the beauty and cosmetics industry. It will handle all e-commerce logistics for the B2C business of both customers, including warehousing, order picking, packaging, distribution and returns management.

Arvato already operates a 60,000sq m logistics and distribution centre at the same location, mainly to handle online orders for companies in the fashion and lifestyle industry.

Operational launch for the new clients is scheduled for the first and second quarters of next year.

Arvato is currently looking for around 300 employees including warehouse specialists, order pickers or forklift drivers  as well as those from the commercial professions and  technicians. They will bring the total number of employees at the Hannover-Messe site to around 950 – not including temporary staff, who are brought in to handle high volumes, especially during peak periods such as Black Friday or the Christmas shopping season.

Arvato is continuing its automation strategy for the company’s global network of locations, including Hanover. Service providers are confronted with complex fulfilment processes, increasingly small shipment sizes, high peak volumes and increasing delivery speeds – challenges that often cannot be met without modern automation technology.

Arvato says its AutoStore system can achieve a very high throughput rate and it reduces the burden on employees because it transports the ordered items directly to the picking stations.

The Hanover site is connected to the main road network and a photovoltaic system with an output of around 4.4 million kilowatt hours is to be installed on the roof.

Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) is being sought for the property.
