New cranes boost Liverpool T1 capacity

[ February 8, 2022   //   ]

Container capacity at the Port of Liverpool’s Terminal 1 has increased 30% as new cranes become fully operational.

Peel Ports has now completed the commissioning of additional ship-to-shore container cranes at the Port’s Terminal 1, which services specialist carriers such as Atlantic Container Line (ACL) and intra Europe services operated by BG Freightline, WEC and Borchard XPS.

The 12-week commissioning programme was completed in January this year

The new cranes can be monitored remotely to deliver optimum performance with the most efficient use of power.

Last year, Liverpool completed the second phase of investments for Terminal 2, with ten new cantilever rail-mounted gantry (CRMG) cranes, which led to the opening of an additional 15 acres of yard capacity as part of the £400 million Liverpool2 project.
