New dispute over Russia border checks

[ August 22, 2013   //   ]

A fresh row has broken out over Russia’s border procedures, this time over delays to traffic to and from Ukraine, reports EUObserver. European Commission trade spokesman, John Clancy sent a warning to Moscow after it was reported that Russia had brought road and rail transport with its neighbour to a near-standstill with increased customs checks in mid-August, although the measures were later reported to have been lifted. Ukraine is due to sign an association agreement with the EU in the autumn, which observers say has displeased Moscow which sees it as a move to bring Kiev out of its sphere of influence.
