New group to push French rail freight

[ June 16, 2020   //   ]

French rail operators have set up a new alliance, Fret Ferroviaire Français du Futur (4F) to promote the freight industry throughout the country. It aims to double freight on the network by 2030 and medium and long-term plans to this end are now being prepared.

Rail freight in France has stagnated over the past ten years with a 9-10% share of the land transport market, behind Switzerland (35), Austria (32%), Germany (18%) and Italy (14%).

Members of 4F include FretSNCF, DB Euro Cargo Rail, Eurotunnel railfreight arm Europorte and the French railways road-rail operator, VIIA.
