New row over Ramsgate animal exports

[ November 23, 2012   //   ]

Animal ferry services from the port of Ramsgate ran into fresh controversy when a vessel carrying about 700 sheep had to return to port because of bad weather. The RSPCA and local MP Sir Roger Gale both criticised the decision to sail, on Wednesday 21 November. The vessel, the Jolene, had two trailer loads of animals on board and was met by protesters on the quayside. In October, the High Court ordered Thanet council to resume live exports from Ramsgate after the local authority had suspended live exports after an incident in which 47 sheep died.
