No end to cross-Channel woes

[ April 8, 2022   //   ]

Problems continue to afflict cross-Channel freight moves, following the suspension of P&O Ferries services between Dover and Calais.

According to press reports, a hoped for resumption of the operator’s services on the route, as well as between Hull and Rotterdam, from 11 April will not now take place.

Adding to the misery, freight operations are being further affected by a system outage on HMRC’s Goods Vehicle Movement System (GVMS) which generates a goods movement reference (GMR) number.

Although HMRC is accepting paper documentary evidence instead, it is much slowed than the barcode-based GVMS system, leading to further delays at Dover, where approach roads have been gridlocked by stranded trucks for several days.
