No go for Ramsgate yet

[ November 2, 2016   //   ]

Thanet District Council has failed in its bit for £4.17m worth of match funding to develop the ro ro terminal at the port of Ramsgate, according to Kentlivenews.com. It said that a Freedom of Information request submitted to the South East Local Economic Partnership by former councillor Ian Driver has revealed the council had planned to match the funding with £2m of its own cash to build a new double-deck ro-ro berth.

A second phase of the scheme would be the development of capacity for bulk cargo and an off-site freight logistics hub at Manston Business Park.

If services and traffic developed further a third phase of seaward port expansion could go ahead.

According to the website, there is speculation that the council will try for another bid but this has not been confirmed.

The port, whose last regular service was Europa ferry route to Ostend, has seen a limited revival handling trade cars for the Gefco group.
