No small beer

Not content with being the official logistics supplier to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, DB Schenker is also playing a similar role for a competition that many consider the ‘Olympics of Beer’. Every two years, the best brewers in the world enter their finest beers into the World Beer Cup, organised by the Brewers Association. DB Schenker Denver coordinates and consolidates shipments by country or region and ship beer entries and forms directly to judges for evaluation, helping smaller breweries in particular navigate the complex US trade and customs regulations.

As Schenker Inc CEO Malcolm Heath observes, this is a big deal for the brewing industry. “It is truly an international competition. The last contest saw an impressive field of 3,921 entries from 799 breweries in 54 countries. This year, 800 breweries from more than 50 countries with 4,000 different beers are applying. With our worldwide network DB Schenker is ideally placed to bring the shipments in time to the competition.”

Entries will be judged between 6-8 April and just like the Olympics, there will be gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition’s 95 beer-style categories.
