NYK cuts out the carbon

[ March 13, 2012   //   ]

NYK’s Southampton transport team have saved around 100 tonnes of CO2 every month in the last year thanks to a 100,000km reduction in truck miles. The line has worked with hauliers to increase the number of container reloads through triangulation of journeys: using the same truck to take import containers from Southampton and bring back export containers.
Moreover, increased gauge clearance, allowing the shipping of high-cube containers from Southampton to Manchester in North West England helped increased containers moved by rail from 35 to 40%.

To encourage support for its environmental policies, commitment and on time performance, NYK presents an annual award to its best performing haulage partners, presented for 2011 to Roadways Container Logistics who, as a result of heavy investment, now have 50% of their truck fleet with EU5 spec engines and run them on ultra-low sulphur diesel biofuel.
