Onwards and upwards at Grangemouth
[ February 24, 2026 // Chris Lewis ]Liebherr has increased the height of two ship to shore cranes at the Port of Grangemouth by 2.2 metres to support higher container stacks and larger straddle carriers. The work was carried out in only six weeks per crane, to minimise disruption to Scotland’s largest container terminal.
Forth Ports-owned Grangemouth operates three Liebherr ship-to-shore gantry cranes: one dating from 2018, and two from 2006.
The upgrade will also extend the service life of the cranes.
