PD Ports doubles up rail service to Scotland

[ October 13, 2025   //   ]

PD Ports has launched a ‘jumbo’ Anglo Scottish rail service, connecting Teesport to both Mossend and Grangemouth. Until now, separate services ran to the two central Scottish terminals but with demand consistently filling wagons, PD Ports has worked with Network Rail and DB Cargo to operate a 16-wagon jumbo train – two wagons longer than before – offering 40 additional slots per week.

PD Ports adds that with trains running to both destinations every day, businesses can “drip feed” volume without reverting to road.

The trains are timed to align with ferry and container ship arrivals at Teesport.

By choosing rail, companies reduce their carbon footprint while avoiding motorway congestion.

Mossend, near Glasgow is a central hub for retail and distribution while Grangemouth is a key site for chemical and manufacturing industries.
