Peter Lole, insurance expert 1937-2019

Marine insurance expert Peter Lole has died. Born in 1937, in London, he started his 56-year long career with Lloyds broker Holmwoods & Back Manson, before joining the Navy to do his two years’ National Service, when he was involved in the Suez Crisis in 1956.

After returning to Lloyds he joined the Northern Assurance Company which was later acquired by the Commercial Union, or Aviva as it is known today, and eventually, in 1979, whilst working for a firm of Insurance Brokers in Hounslow, formed Peter Lole & Company as a vehicle to place marine insurance business. In 1982, he made the decision to carry the business on independently with his own premises and staff.

He retired from day to day involvement in his business in 2009, handing to son Simon who, continues running the business today.

He had a keen interest in photography and enjoyed treading the boards in amateur dramatics and opera as well as finding time to become a parish and later district councilor.
