Portico wins Freeport funding
[ June 18, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Portsmouth stevedore Portico Shipping has secured £4.8m from the Solent Freeport’s seed capital fund which will be supported by a £2.23m loan from owners Portsmouth City Council providing a total of £7.03m capital investment for major projects.
It will allow the company to create more quayside space by demolishing a warehouse, increasing cargo handling capacity and help attract new business. Plans also include removal of an outdated refrigeration system and replacement with a new one to support modern electrically powered containers, reducing energy demand to help reach carbon neutral operations by 2030.
The work will start immediately and will be completed by March 2026.
Portico will also create 18 new jobs in warehouse operations and logistics supervision which, it says could attract an additional weekly shipping service.
