Portsmouth talks

[ July 18, 2012   //   ]

Portsmouth City Council and the Unite union are to hold talks after quay assistants at the council-owned port voted unanimously in favour of strike action in a dispute over new working contracts. They have agreed to meet on Monday 23 July to commence negotiations to resolve the dispute.

An overtime ban was due to take place from 00.01 Tuesday, 24 July until further notice followed by full strike action to be decided in the next few days.

The 18 quay assistants are responsible for tying up and releasing cross-channel ferries. The new contract says that they will have to guarantee to service vessels beyond their contractual finishing time of midnight until 5.45am the following morning.
