Potter bulks up with rice contract

[ March 22, 2013   //   ]

Potter Logistics has won a two-year, £1m contract to handle bagged and bulk rice for Yorkshire-based Associated British Foods subsidiary, Westmill Foods. Potter’s nearby Northern rail freight terminal and Selby distribution centre will take in containerised product delivered by MSC from Felixstowe and bulk rice shipped into the port of Hull.

Bulk rice will be sampled and unloaded by rice type into specially built bays, capable of storing up to 2,400 tonnes each while the bagged rice will be palletised and stored in a dedicated 60,000sq ft warehouse. Organic rice will be handled in a specified area elsewhere on the site. Westmill Foods’ head of logistics, Bob Amon, said the development would allow the company to switch movement of containers from Felixstowe to Selby from road to rail.
